An
Already Blazing Summer At NRG Just Keeps Getting Hotter We recently caught up with NRG's studio manager Kelly Garver for some good conversation and the latest session updates at one of LA's hottest studios. Limp Bizkit recently returned to NRG's Studio B with producer Terry Date and Engineer Dave Holdridge to complete the band's forthcoming album. The album is tentatively titled "Panty Sniffer" and is scheduled for release in September of 2003. In 1998 Limp Bizkit locked out NRG's Studio B with Terry Date to record the multi-platinum album "Significant Other." Limp Bizkit is currently appearing on the Summer Sanitorium Tour. Static X recently locked out NRG's Studio A with producer Josh Abraham. Following their stint at NRG, Static-X found a new drummer, Nick Oshiro, and can be seen this summer on tour with Staind. The new CD "Shadow Zone" is set for a September 2003 release. Jay Baumgardner has been busy in NRG's Studio C mixing a number of different projects. Baumgardner mixed "Jump" the lead single for Ill Nino's latest offering on Roadrunner Records. Ill Nino's album, "Confessions," is slated for a September 2003 release. Baumgardner also recently mixed the song "'Til the Day I Die" for Story of the Year (Maverick). Story of the Year will release their album "Page Avenue" in August. The Baumgardner mixed Evanescence song "Bring Me To Life" continues to fly high at both rock and pop radio. The Evanescence album "Fallen" currently resides at #10 on Billboard's top 200 after 7 weeks on the charts and multi-platinum sales. For more details or booking information please contact Kelly Garver 818-760-7841. ^BACK UP^ Manhattan Center Studios Scores with Elliot Goldenthal Film scoring has returned to the Manhattan Center's Grand Ballroom. Oscar-winning composer Elliot Goldenthal recently used the Grand Ballroom to record the score for the upcoming Sony Pictures film S.W.A.T. with a 92-piece orchestra. The composer worked with Manhattan Center Studios in June and July to complete the score. Goldenthal and Music Producer Teese Gohl worked with a team of about 20 people including seven Manhattan Center Studios' engineers and assistants. The entire scoring process from pre-recording to mixing covered a span of 22 days and occupied two studios. For five days engineer Joel Iwataki recorded the orchestra using two Pro Tools HD systems in Studio Seven, while Stephen McLaughlin created the 5.1 mix in Studio 4 of the Manhattan Center. "It was good to have film scoring back in New York, and here at the Manhattan Center," says Studio Sales Manager Richie Clarke. Goldenthal is no stranger to the Grand Ballroom. In February, he and producer Gohl spearheaded the recording for the 2003 Academy Award winning score Frida in the ballroom. According to Goldenthal, the Grand Ballroom is "the best sounding orchestral scoring room in the world." He also dubbed MCS as "the studio with heart." Frida was the last score recorded and mixed at MCS before S.W.A.T. The Sony Pictures film S.W.A.T. starring Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell and LL Cool J will be released nationwide on Friday, August 8th. Located in Boston's historic Back Bay neighborhood, Boston Skyline Studios has returned large-format recording capabilities to New England. Studio A features a Solid State Logic 4064 G Plus console, and raises the benchmark for studio service in the region. "We had a dream to build a world-class studio in the Boston area and the folks at Professional Audio Design helped us put it all together," says Peloquin. "We knew we needed an SSL board and top-shelf recording, editing and outboard rack equipment, but wanting and actualizing are two different things and that is where PAD came in. We couldn't be happier with the results." The top priority for the studio was creating a comfortable space to work projects ranging from solo piano to a full-blown band. While PAD handled the system integration, design and wiring installation, Munro Acoustics was recommended by PAD to develop the control room layout and acoustics treatments. "Choosing Munro Acoustics was a brilliant stroke by PAD," said Harris. "Munro fulfilled our primary objective of creating the best room in New England. The studio room has wonderful acoustics that enhance the performance value of our clients and is set to handle nearly any size job." Everyone Report to the Dance Floor Immediately When So Solid Beats/Independiente's new signing JD aka Dready appears out of the blue and commands you to get on the dance floor, you might well wonder just who he thinks he is. Coming on like the British answer to Busta Rhymes, Beenie Man and Pharrell Williams all in one package, JD may be a new face to most, but he's already a master at making people move their feet - and the hit track 'Signal' is a raucous, party-starting taste of how he does it. In a few short months, JD's distinctive approach to music has seen his star rocket. After leaving Birmingham for London in early 2001 with the hope of finally making real inroads into the music business, he met So Solid Crew. During 2002, he began working on new So Solid related productions, including Lisa Maffia, Romeo and Asher D's solo projects, and has since been snapped up to produce and remix tracks for front-rank British stars like Mis-Teeq, Miss Dynamite, Beverley Knight and Lemar. 'Signal' is another demonstration of how JD's unique flavour has become so hot so quickly. Musically, it showcases his taste for booming bass, beats that bang harder than anyone else's and the state-of-the-art style and musical range which transform a top-drawer rhythm track into a multi-layered party anthem. Vocally, it's a prime slice of his high-spirited, irresistible rhyme style. On top of all that, there's no mistaking the trademark atmosphere the record captures. JD always works to create a vibe in the studio by whipping up excitement and enthusiasm and preserving it on the finished track; if it sounds like the people in the vocal booth were having more fun than you, that's because they probably were. The single is from Sting's new album titled Sacred Love, which is slated to be released worldwide in September 2003. A leading artist, DJ, producer and owner of the Ovum label - Josh Wink has consistently pushed the envelope of the cutting edge, while simultaneously releasing commercial singles year after year. "I'm a huge fan of Sting and it's an honor to work with an artist who I've been listening to since I was 12 years old", says Wink. "This mix was a great challenge, as I found myself torn between doing something that could be a big commercial crossover and staying true to my underground nature. So I did a full vocal version in a deep loungy house vibe and then a more left minimal tech house version." Wink brought in the Grammy winning keyboardist, Philly's famed James Poyser (The Roots, Erykah Badu) for the original vocal interpretation mix. "We felt Wink could help expose Sting to a segment of the dance music community that wasn't entirely familiar with remixes of his songs", says Interscope Records Juan Martinez. In addition to remixing Sting, Josh Wink has recently done remixes including Gus Gus' "Desire", Ladytron's "Blue Jeans", No Doubts's "Hella Good", Radiohead's "Everything In It's Right Place" and OAKENFOLD's 'Starry Eyed Surprise". Other remixes of note include Lenny Kravitz, Depeche Mode and Tweaker amongst many others. Wink's Ovum label recently released the highly anticipated Profound Sounds Volume 2 CD, Wink's first mix CD in three years.
