WSDG-Designed Forge Recording & Duplication Opens in PA
Forge Recording, a 25-year-old recording studio/replication company has moved to a new state-of-the-art facility in Oreland, PA created by the Walters-Storyk Design Group. With thousands of recording/mastering and duplication projects to their credit, Forge Recording owner Sheldon Granor was convinced that the best way to service his diverse client-base was with an entirely new production/manufacturing plant. "When I purchased this company two years ago I felt its potential would be greatly enhanced by a modern recording studio and duplication facility," Granor said. The new Forge Recording/Replication complex features an expansive 400 sq. ft, acoustically accurate "floating" control room, and a 900 sq. ft. live room (including two spacious ISO booths) capable of accommodating a 60 member choir. The WSDG design has taken full advantage of the 22 ft. high, arched wooden ceiling by building offices, a mastering suite and graphics production studio on a 2000 sq. ft. 2nd floor mezzanine, while maintaining the 5000 sq. ft. column-free ground floor open for production and manufacturing. Control room monitoring is provided by Genelec 1038A speakers. The room features a Yamaha DM2000 mixing console. "We offer our clients a multiplicity of services," Sheldon Granor adds. "In addition to recording, over-dubbing, mixing and mastering, we provide replication in a wide range of formats including CD, audiocassette, VHS and DVD. Forge Recording is located at 100 Mill Road, Oreland, PA 19075. Tel. 215.885.7000, Fax 215.887.3501, www.forgerecording.com.

Malcolm McLaren Showcases New Band at In The City
Malcolm McLaren will be bringing his new band 'GAMEBOY' to In The City 2003 for a world debut live performance. There are also rumours he will be speaking. "We are living in a karaoke world and with it comes the increasing desire for something authentic, forcing every artist to search for the sound that is both subversive, sexy and stylish in the 21st century. "In The City" I can absolutely guarantee will provide just that this fall, "Bastard Blues", "Post-Karaoke", "Chip music" and "Rock n Roll Gameboy" is just the beginning. Be there." IN THE CITY is the international music convention, whose concept was conceived by the forward thinking Yvette Livesey and the Factory maverick Anthony Wilson. It combines the hottest live acts unsigned and signed, with the most innovative, creative and commercial debate. Since 1992, IN THE CITY has evolved into 'THE' UK's International Music Convention and the annual summit for all aspects of the music industries. For more details visit the In The City website.

Larry Carlton Uses Audio-Technica on Sapphire Blue
For the past three decades, Larry Carlton has been known to musicians around the world as a guitarist's guitarist. As a frequently sought session player, solo artist, and member of the chart-topping group Fourplay, Carlton's signature guitar sound can be heard on literally hundreds of recordings including film soundtracks, television themes, and over 100 Gold records. His latest blues-oriented CD, Sapphire Blue (JVC Japan), which was recorded at Nashville's famed Sound Kitchen Recording Studios, features many well-known players including Matt Rollings (keyboards), Michael Rhodes (bass), Billy Kilson (drums), and Mark Douthit (saxophone), plus a seven-piece horn section arranged by Jim Horn. Producer Carlton and engineer Csaba Petocz used a selection of Audio-Technica microphones to capture Carlton's legendary sound. Commenting on the recording process, engineer Csaba Petocz, who has engineered and/or produced numerous recordings for artists such as Elton John, Stanley Clarke, and John Michael Montgomery, discussed why he chose Audio-Technica for the recording of Sapphire Blue. "I've been a big fan of Audio-Technica over the years and have used a wide selection of their mics during recording sessions that range from Dana Glover to Metallica," stated Petocz. Carlton, too, has praise for Audio-Technica. Says the groundbreaking, GRAMMY Award-winning guitarist, "I've used Audio-Technica on my last few records with excellent results. Tone, tone, and more tone - that's what Audio-Technica microphones help me achieve." Carlton's reputation as one of the most skilled and versatile guitarists in contemporary music is well deserved. His body of work includes film soundtracks (Against All Odds), television themes (Who's The Boss?), and work on over 100 Gold albums by legendary artists in every musical genre, such as The Crusaders (13 albums), Joni Mitchell's classic Court and Spark, Herb Alpert, Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, John Lennon, Jerry Garcia, Steely Dan, Linda Ronstadt, and Dolly Parton. He has also arranged and produced projects for Barbra Streisand, Joan Baez, and Larry Gatlin. Bronx Soundwalk CD Release feat. Bronx Hip Hop Legends
Adidas and Soundwalk/Oversampling have teamed up to create The Bronx
Soundwalk, an immersive "audio guide for insiders" experience. This latest
installment in the Soundwalk library will be released on September 13th, 2003 and made available at MoMa Design Store, Tower Records, The Apartment, Colette, among other venues. The Bronx Soundwalk activates the synthesis of sport culture and street culture in an extraordinarily immersive experience - an insider's walking tour of the Bronx focusing on three significant neighborhoods: Yankee Stadium, Hunts Point and Soundview. Previous NYC Soundwalks have included Chinatown, the Lower East Side, Times Square and Dumbo. Also in production are the Meat Packing District and Williamsburg. Through audio overlay, Soundwalk creates 360-degree surround sound which results in a dynamic tapestry, one that combines breakthrough technology with human experience in a compelling way. While each of the earlier Soundwalks contain one 45 minute walking tour, the Bronx Soundwalk will be divided into three shorter walks, each linked by one of the elevated train lines leaving from 125th Street in Manhattan, with a bonus CD including a 30 minute mix by The Original Jazzy Jay. The user is invited to "cross the river" into the experience that is the Bronx. The Bronx Soundwalk celebrates the tradition of oral history as a living chronicle; like Hip Hop itself, often more fluid and dynamic than the written word. By recording legendary Bronx figures and culling the accounts of their impact on sport culture and street culture, adidas and Soundwalk are stimulating and preserving firsthand memories of an event or time of life. Representing a new form of immersive digital storytelling, the Bronx Soundwalk is ultimately an archival homage to the Bronx for its overwhelming influence on the world, from sport and fashion to music and art.
